What is the Public Option?

Liberals doggedly insist that Americans approve of the idea of a "public option" as a part of health care reform. That may be true, but Americans don't even know what the public option is, and they're not ashamed to admit as much.

Asked point blank, "Could you confidently explain what exactly the "public option" is to someone who didn't know," a hefty majority of Americans say, "No."

Two thirds of our respondents say they can't really explain the "public option" when it comes to health care reform. We don't know how many of the over 1000 [2,000] pages of the draft legislation are devoted to it, but knowing our legislative branch's penchant for long, tedious prattling, it's a good bet that our elected officials probably couldn't explain it to the man on the street either.

Only a quarter of Americans say that they could confidently explain the public option. Not knowing what the public option is, can Americans really be in love with the idea?

simple explanation: The public option is what the left needs it be to be to gain power and influence over American society so it could be molded to their vision.

I know Senator Claire McCaskill doesn't have the brains to explain it.

RV: That's definitely the idea.

BB: Certainly not in terms that would be accurate.

PM: Obama's presidency could be summed up in one word: Scandalgate.

Public Option = The end of Capitalism.

The fact remains that big insurance by refusing care to patients and reimbursement to doctors over typos has ticked everyone off. They have a monopoly over the whole process and a well financed lobby team (including Lieberman's wife) and representatives on both sides of the isle.

A friend of mine recently laid off just he and his spouse is paying $2,500.00 dollars a month for his COBRA. Health insurance costs more than his mortgage. Anyone taking up the insurance industry's cause doesn't know what they are talking about.

If you think the insurance companies are going to voluntarily lower their cost while having a monopoly over the process – you are being disingenuous

Over 60% of all US bankruptcies are attributable to medical problems. Most victims are middle class, well educated and have health insurance - (The American Journal of Medicine)

The insurance companies and their representatives in Congress would love to perpetuate a business model that is crippling our overall economy – a bunch of great Americans aren’t they?

90% of the wealth concentrated in 1% of the population is no way to run a country but a heck of a way to establish a royalty ruling class.

Yacht sales can not sustain 350 million people. I'm for the public option, competition and a level playing field or break up the big insurers like we did AT&T.

A slavish focus on profit margin might be good for the individual or a business, but it is one helluva lousy way to "govern" a Country. The GOP being a wholly owned subsidiary of Corporate America has a hard time with that concept.

Paul Burke: The best way to solve the problems with private health insurance is to introduce more free enterprise...not to take it away or stamp it out.

There are 1300 health insurance providers scattered all over this country, but because the Imperial Federal Government won't allow us to purchase health insurance across state lines, insurance is more expensive than it needs to be.

"Some states have very few health insurers. Rates are high. So why not allow interstate competition? After all, you can buy oranges across state lines. If you couldn’t, oranges would be extremely expensive in Wisconsin, especially in winter.

"And the answer to the resulting high Wisconsin orange prices wouldn’t be the establishment of a public option — a federally run orange-growing company in Wisconsin — to introduce 'competition.' It would be to allow Wisconsin residents to buy Florida oranges.

"But neither bill lifts the prohibition on interstate competition for health insurance. Because this would obviate the need — the excuse — for the public option, which the left wing of the Democratic party sees (correctly) as the royal road to fully socialized medicine."

Tort reform could also save untold billons, but the Democrat Party, being a wholly owned subsidiary of the trial lawyer's lobby has a hard time with that concept.

With regard to your comments on profits and concentration of wealth, I highly recommend this short video.

Does the public option have anything to do with my obama money? Shocking indeed! Thanks for the link. I bow deeply from the waist at your generosity.
