Show the real Blue Dogs some appreciation and encouragement for their courageous stand.

Finally, the biggest disappointment, the only Republican to vote with the Democrats, Joseph Cao.

If ObamaCare is not defeated, and if Cao does not reverse his vote the next time around, I solemnly pledge to join the effort to defeat Cao in 2010. I'd prefer to see Cao replaced with a conservative Republican, but if we can't make that happen, we might as well give that seat back to a Democrat and redirect Cao's resources to candidates who will vote with conservatives.

We can't always expect 100% purity from everyone in the Republican Party, but is a TRACE of loyalty too much to ask for?

to America in 1975 with the boat people. His father was a south vietnamese officer who was imprisoned by the communists for 5 years. His son has now embraced the very ideology his father was brutalized for opposing. He has shamed all Vietnamese people and the honorable service of all vietnam vets who sacrificed for his freedom. He has repayed us by helping to destroy our country. He is a disgrace.

When the witch smiles, a bad spell has been cast across the fruited plain. We must all work to defeat this list of Congressman who chose not to protect the Constitution, specifically the 18 enumerated powers, by expanding the General Welfare clause and not reading Federalist 41.

Thanks for posting a list of the Reps who voted for this piece of socialism.

I WILL be calling to let them know I am very displeased. They won't be happy to hear from me.

Oh, and do you know the name of the Senator that promised to have the entire bill read on the floor if it made it to the Senate? I want to contact him and encourage him, but I can't remember who said it...

I don't know that I would heap a lot of praise on the "real Blue Dog Democrats" just yet. The Speaker has the power to allow "dissent" from a certain number of Dems in conservative leaning districts, in order to facilitate their re-election. They did not necessarily vote against this bill on principle, but may have pledged their fealty to the speaker on some equally onerous bill in exchange for the "cover" they need to stay in Congress.

Had there been enough "Blue Dogs" to actually defeat the bill, then their stand might have some meaning. As it stands, it could just be window dressing.

Anon: It is a shame when people escape oppression only to bring it with them wherever they go.

BB: Some will change their minds with the next vote. I will be working to defeat those who don't.

Sue: We have to keep the pressure on. They did this on a weekend so they could escape some of the pressure.

Tom Coburn (R-OK) is the Senator who has talked about reading the bill on the floor of the Senate.

Proof: Good point. I'm being a little generous with the praise because I think they need all the encouragement they can get. In the end, for most it comes down to a political calculation, not conviction.

If you look at the geographical distribution of the "no" votes, they're mostly in very red territory. And most of the "yes" votes are in very blue territory. So I don't expect to see any massive changes with the next vote. But between now and the fateful day when they decide whether or not to send this bill to Obama, they'll be sitting on the fence with both ears to the ground. So I intend to let them know that we'll give them a break if they vote with the people, but Obama will give them the Creigh Deeds treatment if they walk the plank for him.
