Colin Powell: Pouring Salt on The Wounds

In an interview with Fareed Zakaria, to be aired Sunday on CNN, Colin Powell goes through his litany of grievances against the GOP. "I think the party has to stop shouting at the world and at the country," Powell said. "I think that the party has to take a hard look at itself, and I've talked to a number of leaders in recent weeks and they understand that."  He went on to say that the GOP must listen to minority groups "and not just try to influence them [with] Republican principles and dogma."

He also opined on conservative radio talk show hosts, saying that they appeal to "our lesser instincts," and said that Republicans lost in November because they used "polarization for political advantage."

What happened to you Colin Powell?  Once upon a time, you were a real leader...strong and smart.  You gave the impression that you were a man of unwavering principles.  You never were much of a conservative, but I had respect for you.  Then you endorsed Barack Obama.  You betrayed your president and your party. But you're not done with your backstabbing are you? Apparently you're still angry about your years in the Bush administration.

You've got a really bad attitude, Colin, and you're hurting your own reputation more than anything else. Don't get sucked in by the media adoration.  They'll turn on you in a New York minute.  Don't take my word for it.  Just ask your fellow RINO, John McCain.

"polarization for politicalization?" What's he smokin'? That describes the democrat playbook! As for "listening to the minorities", it is exactly the other way around. More African-American families live conservative God-fearing lives, yet they vote opposite of their values.

Like Sarah Palin said, " I wish I had a chance to meet these people"

I'm sure Powell has the ability to arrange a meeting

and what party is Powell speaking for? I might give a damn if he, you know, actually voted for the GOP and endorsed our candidate.

We ran HIS candidate, a moderate, and he still voted against him

For my part, I find Powell is redeeming himself, standing up more for justice and what's good and right than he has at times past.

Like you, I have always had at least a little respect for Powell, but it was mixed with some disgust at some of the behavior he went along with. Now, perhaps he's trying to set things more aright by standing even more strongly for the Good.

Good on you, Brother Powell!

"Just ask your fellow RINO, John McCain."

Or, your fellow RINO, George W. Bush!

The major problem I see with the GOP is that the majority of them have abandoned their conservative foundations. They really need to reform and get back to the basic principles of the party! Spending like a bunch of liberal Democrats with a newly-passed tax measure, giving amnesty to illegal aliens, and providing these bailouts against the will of the people are not what I call 'conservative values'.

Palin fought tooth and nail to see the gop to victory, anyway, who cares?

Dan
what were Powell's sins again?

Powell had connections with/a hand in the whole Iran Contra scandal. He does not appear to have had a lead role in that moral and legal quagmire, but he is a bit tainted by it, from what I read.

Then, there is his role in the lead-up to the Iraq invasion.

It appears that Powell was opposed to the Iraq invasion and expressed his disagreement with Bush. Rightly so, seems to me. But then, he stayed on past the time when Bush began the invasion. I would have had more respect for him had he resigned when Bush failed to heed his advice.
