My Letter to Obama

My letter to Obama, sent via USPS on April 1:

Dear Mr. President,

As a peaceful, law-abiding taxpayer, I urge you to stand by the statements and commitments you have made.

  • "...absolutely, we need earmark reform.  And when I'm president, I will go line by line to make sure that we are not spending money unwisely."
  • "When there is a bill that ends up on my desk as the president, you the public will have five days to look online and find out what's in it before I sign it."
  • "Obama and Biden review the federal budget line by line and eliminate programs that don't work or are unnecessary."
  • "I've always been a strong believer in the power of the free market.  It has been and will remain the very engine of America's progress  the source of a prosperity that has gone unmatched in human history,"
  • "The United States government has no interest in running GM.  We have no intention of running GM."
  • "Not because I believe in bigger government, I don't."
  • "Transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency..."

Your actions thus far have been inconsistent with these statements.

As a member of the "loyal opposition" I want America to succeed.  I believe that if you stand firm and follow through with these statements, America will continue to grow and prosper, and you will enjoy robust support.

Sincerely,

... ...

That is pretty cool, I wouldn't hold your breath on his reforming anything though.

Good letter. Unfortnately from my experience, Politicians don't like their own words used against them and never respond when you do. It would be refreshing to receive an honest reply why their words aren't consistent with their actions.

Do you really think your letter will be one of the ten he reads each day? Those letters are picked out by his 'staff', and I'm sure they don't want to hurt his 'feelings' because of what he said coming back to haunt him.

It was a very good letter though, and if, perchance he does answer, let us know, and what he said!

RV: Thanks. You're right...Obama talks about bipartisanship, and pretends not to be shackled by ideology, but his mind is made up and his agenda is set in stone.

CB: Thanks. Yes, it annoys his Royal Barackness when his subjects use his words against him...we've seen that in the press conferences. It annoys ME when he uses our government against us. But of course there will be no honest reply. Does he give honest and direct answers to questions posed by reporters? I will be writing Obama anyway, and I hope to inspire others to do the same.

LG: Do I think he will read my letter? Absolutely not. Does letter writing make a diffence? Yes. I want to encourage all of my readers to write letters. I hope you will encourage your readers to do the same. I never wrote a letter to ANY politician before the beginning of Obama's reign. This letter makes four now.

This is the time to take action... Big or small, every action is important.

I'm considering writing Obama on a weekly basis (Tuesdays with Obamie?) At the very least, it would be a very inexpensive way to vent frustration! Thanks for the compliment.

I think it's great you wrote the letter. Regardless of the fact that he'll never see it. Good on you!

JJ: Obama won't read the letter, but you did!
