'Clash of the Titans' pits Obama against Cheney on Guant√°namo closure
Cheney, stressing repeatedly that he and Bush had kept the US from a further attack after 9/11, appears to be setting up Obama to take the blame for another terrorist attack. Obama, near the close of his own speech, anticipated this, and acknowledged that the US still faced the threat of attack and would do so next year, five years from now and even 10 years from now.

The Obama-Cheney Showdown
I, for one, am gratified to see this White House forced to put national security on the front burner. If not for the forceful public defenses by Vice President Cheney of the aggressive, proactive measures the last administration took to keep us safe, the current commander-in-chief would be happily gabbling about solar panels and weatherization subsidies or somesuch.

Obama in Bush Clothing: America Fights On
Within 125 days, Obama has adopted with only minor modifications huge swaths of the entire, allegedly lawless Bush program.

Another Take on the Obama/Cheney Speeches
First, while President Obama proclaimed that he had no interest in re-litigating the problems of the past eight years, that is almost entirely what he did.

Report Shows Air Quality Improved During Bush Administration
A recent report from a Washington think tank shows that levels of numerous gases linked with air pollution, like carbon monoxide, have fallen off since 2001 and air quality in the U.S. has improved significantly over the last decade.

HELP STOP THE ENERGY TAX!
The Markey-Waxman “Cap-and-trade” Energy Tax bill, would have the following catastrophic effects:
  • Reduce aggregate GDP by $9.6 trillion annually
  • Destroy 1,105,000 American jobs per year
  • Raise electricity rates 90%
  • Raise inflation-adjusted gasoline prices by 74%
  • Raise residential natural gas prices by 55%
  • Raise an average family's annual energy bill by $1,500 annually
  • Increase federal debt by $29,150 per person

By the way Waxman-Markey is even worse; Its 932 pages of rules and regulations.

"Another problem with Waxman-Markey is its complexity. At 932 pages, it is half as long again as an already-bloated previous draught. It includes a dizzying array of handouts, mandates and technical standards for everything from hot-food-holding cabinets to portable spas. It allows for a huge increase in “offsets”—where a polluter pays someone else to stop polluting instead of curbing his own emissions. These are open to abuse, as Europe’s experience shows. There is little to stop foreign factories from starting to pollute just so that someone will pay them to stop."
