Obama vs. Jindal

Highlights from Obama's Speech

A surplus became an excuse to transfer wealth to the wealthy instead of an opportunity to invest in our future.

Obama, this statement is insane.  You are either woefully ignorant or shamelessly dishonest.  We have never stopped transferring wealth from the wealthy and productive to the poor and unproductive. When bemoaning the injustice of cutting taxes in the face of budget surpluses, please understand that tax cuts do not "transfer" wealth to the wealthy.  Tax cuts reduce the transference of power to the powerful.  Obama wants to propagate the lie that wealth and opportunity are created by the government in Washington and then transferred to the people by benevolent politicians. This is a dangerous deception and we must not allow the Democrats to continue to get away with it!

I asked this Congress to send me a recovery plan by President's Day that would put people back to work and put money in their pockets. Not because I believe in bigger government  I don't...

You don't believe in bigger government?  Seriously?  You're willing to tell a lie that big?

...Not because I'm not mindful of the massive debt we've inherited -- I am.

What did you do to fight the accumulation of "massive debt" when you were in the Senate?  If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

Over the next two years, this plan will save or create 3.5 million jobs. More than 90 percent of these jobs will be in the private sector.

Sounds like you're making things up Hussein.

We have created a new website called recovery.gov so that every American can find out how and where their money is being spent.

On Obama's recovery.gov you can find cryptic and misleading information such as:
"Tax Relief - includes $15 B for Infrastructure and Science, $61 B for Protecting the Vulnerable, $25 B for Education and Training and $22 B for Energy, so total funds are $126 B for Infrastructure and Science, $142 B for Protecting the Vulnerable, $78 B for Education and Training, and $65 B for Energy."

What?!  Infrastructure, science, education, training, energy = tax relief?  This is your transparency?

My budget does not attempt to solve every problem or address every issue. It reflects the stark reality of what we've inherited -- a trillion-dollar deficit, a financial crisis, and a costly recession.

Hussein, you're being disingenuous.  You did precious little to help the situation when you were in the Senate (you were too busy looking for your next job), and now, one month into your reign of terror, you've grown the deficit at an unprecedented rate.

Given these realities, everyone in this chamber -- Democrats and Republicans -- will have to sacrifice some worthy priorities for which there are no dollars. And that includes me.

Oh really?  What will you and your democrat friends be sacrificing? Please share the details.

With the deficit we inherited, the cost of the crisis we face, and the long-term challenges we must meet...

There you go again!  You didn't inherit it if you helped to create it.

...it has never been more important to ensure that as our economy recovers, we do what it takes to bring this deficit down.

Yeah, we get it.  You're so excited about raising taxes, you can hardly stand it.

Now, I'm proud that we passed a recovery plan free of earmarks.

The porkulus plan is earmark-free?  Well, that depends on what your definition of "is" is.

I will not allow terrorists to plot against the American people from safe havens halfway around the world. We will not allow it.

No, you won't simply allow it, you will make it easier for them to plot against us.

To relieve the strain on our forces, my budget increases the number of our soldiers and Marines.

We will see how this plays out.  Let's not talk only about increased numbers, lets talk about increased strength.  And let's talk about missile defense.  Why are you opposed to missile defense systems?

Highlights from Jindal's Speech

The strength of America is not found in our government. It is found in the compassionate hearts and enterprising spirit of our citizens.

Obama and his friends do not believe that Americas are compassionate, they believe that they need to save us from ourselves and from each other.

To solve our current problems, Washington must lead. But the way to lead is not to raise taxes and put more money and power in hands of Washington politicians. The way to lead is by empowering you  the American people. Because we believe that Americans can do anything.

Washington politicians are primarily interested in empowering themselves.

Who among us would ask our children for a loan, so we could spend money we do not have, on things we do not need? That is precisely what the Democrats in Congress just did.
Republicans need to repeat this line thousands of times.

Republicans want to work with President Obama. We appreciate his message of hope -- but sometimes it seems we look for hope in different places. Democratic leaders in Washington place their hope in the federal government. We place our hope in you -- the American people.

They place their hope in themselves.  Their lust for power is never satisfied.

A few weeks ago, the President warned that our nation is facing a crisis that he said 'we may not be able to reverse.'  Our troubles are real, to be sure. But don't let anyone tell you that we cannot recover -- or that America's best days are behind her.

Finally I see someone else hammer Obama for always looking for his job on the employers dime which in his case was mine and other non lib Illinoisans.

I started blogging about Obama 1 year before his senate run and followed him the entire way on the blog. Lie after lie after lie people bought again and again.

Good fisk here RK.. I like this one too!!! ("$61 B for Protecting the Vulnerable, "

Of course some on the right were to stupid to appreciate what he said and focused on his style.

Where does your party get such shallow losers? This is NOT what we stand for! ..... Or are Palin and Jindal really the best they have to offer?

CR: The sheeple prefer slick lies to the unvarnished truth.

RV: If Jindal ever uses a telepromter again, he needs to practice more. He'd be better off speaking off the cuff, he always does well when he does. The right has been relentlessly critical of Jindal's style, and that has been much more disappointing than any shortcomings in Jindal's performance.

Napqueen: Who on the left (other than Obama) is providing leadership? Who on the left is better than Palin or Jindal or Cantor or DeMint?

With all due respect, I can't agree with you. I think that the Republican party better start thinking about 2012. Because Bobby Jindal did not impress me at all.
What the Hell were the Republicans thinking? I am simply astonished at their complete stupidity. They bring up Katrina which certainly emphasized Republican Governmental incompetence and tell us they the best way to get through the current emergency (economic crisis) is to have a repeat performance of their Katrina response. The American people can do anything - rejecting the GOP platforms included. Now that there economic message is falling on deaf ears they will move to the "moral" issues. Anti-abortion and and anti-gay agenda moves to the forefront. I bet we see a duel Governor ticket of Sanders and Palin or Pawlenty and Palin from the GOP in 2012. Jindal is done. I expect the GOP will not let him back on the stage anytime soon. The majority of Republicans currently in office are a parody of themselves. They will attempt to purge the moderates in their party in the next three election cycles.
So I think if they go with Jindal in 2010, we are in deep doo doo.
Jindal and Steele are both self-serving tokens.
They don't care that they've been chosen as the "New" face of the GOP because they are minorities, just as Palin didn't care that she'd been chosen because she's a woman.
The Republicans need to wake up to the fact if they cannot pick a representative who can be an effective orator offering a solution other than "tax cuts" and "stop wasteful spending" their chances of getting the White House back in 2012 will be zero.

Mary: We don't know if Jindal will run in 2012. If he does, he will, of course, compete with several others. There's a lot of great talent in the GOP...how best to put it to use will be the subject of endless debate. Hopefully none of our talented leaders will be "purged."

I was not happy with Jindal's performance. He can do better. He generally communicates extremely well, but for some reason, in that setting, he flopped. He was probably over-coached. He's gotten a lot of criticism in the past for talking too fast. I suspect that he was overcompensating to try to address this concern.

To say that Jindal is a token, one has to be unfamiliar with his work and his accomplishments. I would ask that you watch the video that I posted on yesterday's post (an interview from the Today show on Wednesday). Or watch clips from any of his interviews over the past couple of years. I think you will appreciate what he has to say (and how he delivers the message).

"Jindal and Steele are both self-serving tokens."

That has to be one of the most ignorant statements I have heard in awhile and I frequent Progressive denizens. And your brilliant solution is offer a candidate who has great oratory skills but no substance? I see, follow the Far Left mantra of a talentless nitwit who is extremely adept at spending other people's money, but he can speak well. Versus someone who can overcome bureaucracy and make the gub'ment operate a little more efficiently. Oh the horror!! Jindal is such a monster for having that skill!!!

Advice to Mary Mary: Lay off the American Idol for a week or two, quite huffing aerosol, and do a little reading, your brain might clear up. Odds are it won't though.

LMAO! I loved this post RK. Especially when you said that "H" word :)

All we hear about is style over substance, and what a great orator obama is and what a poor "performance" Jindal had. Your post nailed just how rife with lies and hypocrisy obama's grand "performance" was.

I'm not so sure about that!
She may be right on target.
This has become a situation where each party wants to be more PC then then other.

Hmm,I suggest you do a little research on Jindal's political history. The GOP eyes have been on him since he was the Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services for Planning and Evaluation under President Bush at the age of 29.

Also, it was common knowledge that Michael Steele was going to be the RNC chair, because of his fund raising ability, and notoriety on Fox News, and his knowledge on how to help the GOP develop strategies on communicating to minorities. Why would you send a white guy to do that?

Most people, other than political junkies, probably don't even know what the RNC or DNC chair are and who occupies them.

So I fail to see how appointing a minority, because they are a minority, to that post is supposed to help the GOP minority cause.

CT: Apparently it's time for those of us who know about Jindal to start helping people to become familiar with his accomplishments. I'll try to write a good blog post on that topic soon.

DaBlade: I've been hesitant to use the "H" word, but if he's gonna lie, I'm gonna use it.

Love to Debate: Unlike Obama, who has never really accomplished anything except getting elected, Jindal has accomplished too much to be considered a token.

Liberals are saying Jindal will probably not benefit from his minority status in the way that Obama has. I am beginning to think they are right. Here is an interesting article on the topic:
