This Stimulus Bill is Even Worse Than You Think

Think the the stimulus bill is bad?  Think again.  The Stimulus Bill is Even Worse Than You Think.  Sobering information from NRO:

The health provisions in the House stimulus bill would expand dependence on the already-unsound Medicaid entitlement program, distort health care choices for unemployed workers, and set up a federal infrastructure that could be used as a tool for government rationing of medical treatments, procedures, and services. [snip]

For the first time, the federal government will give significant cash to able-bodied adults without dependent children.  ...Since most of these individuals have little apparent need for assistance, the new credit represents "spreading the wealth" for its own sake.  [snip]

Buried in the economic stimulus legislation is a provision that undercuts parental authority and expands control of taxpayer dollars by family planning clinics.  Because the income of parents or even a spouse may not be counted in determining eligibility, states would have the option to "consider only the income of the applicant or recipient." In other words, a child in a family at any income level may be eligible for free family-planning services. A child would be able to receive benefits through a "presumptive eligibility period" and beyond without parental knowledge that he or she applied for Medicaid.  [snip]

For the first time since 1996, the federal government would begin paying bonuses to states that increase their welfare caseloads. Under the stimulus bills, the federal government will pay 80 percent of cost for each new family that a state enrolls in welfare; this matching rate is far higher than it was under the old AFDC program

Obama has repeatedly told us in recent days that he is abandoning the old, failed, tired ideas of the past.  He isn't.

It was clear that the measure was the result of old-fashioned sausage-making. Pet provisions were coming to light that had not been included in the original bills that passed the House or Senateor that differed markedly from earlier versions. Some appeared to brush up against claims of the bill's supporters that no pet projects known as "earmarks" were included.

White House sources tell me that another nominee for commerce secretary could be announced quite soon, maybe in the next few days.  But that candidate will be President Obama's fourth choice for commerce secretary.

Why not make the "stimulus bill" a kazillion dollars?

Obama didn't lie to Joe the Plumber. We knew that all along, and now part of the 52% is about to realize that too. There is not hope for the other part of the 52%.

Depressing. I really hate that little snarky and lying punchline of the messiah-in-chief's regarding the "failed policies of the last eight years". His HOPE & CHANGE is the same tired Keynesian crap by an exponential factor.

RV: and they've taken away the 48 hour public posting promise. They couldn't give us another 48 hours?? The economy is a slow moving creature. It changes direction over the course of months...not hours.

Clay: No he didn't lie to the plumber. But then again, he did. He said that he thinks that redistributing the wealth helps everybody. He knows it doesn't help everybody. And he probably knows that it doesn't even help most people...only the political overlords.

HW: Good advice.

DaBlade: Even Keynes must be blushing.

Democrats are trying to create a huge welfare class to cement a voting block for a generation. They are buying votes of the uneducated. FDR did it and they it again now.

This must be stopped or conservative and libertarian principles may not a chance.

Very sad and depressing indeed!!
I totally agree with Humble Wife - Prepare yourselves - get your own homes in order -

This reminds me of a quote I read (not sure who originally wrote it)

"* You cannot bring prosperity by discouraging thrift.

* You cannot help small men by tearing down big men.

* You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.

* You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.

* You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich.

* You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.

* You cannot further brotherhood of men by inciting class hatred.

* You cannot establish security on borrowed money.

* You cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and independence.

* You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves."

I agree - redistributing the wealth doesn't help anyone, and I also believe Obama knows this. Anyone that truly understand Socialism, will understands this concept. Obama & other liberal leaders pretend to believe this lie and try to convince others to believe it, because it is all about Power for them.

FL: hope is dwindling

Red: Great quote. We live in a classless society. People move up and down the social and economic ladder according to their merit and their goals. With Obama's socialist utopia, we will have classes. The politically connected class and the politically powerless class. Your station in life will not reflect how hard you work, but who you know. Instead of investing their effort in making the pie bigger and better, people will invest their effort in fighting for their ever-shrinking and increasingly stale slice.
