California Crashing

Time for another bailout?

California lawmakers gathered again Tuesday in another bid to end the state's multibillion-dollar budget stalemate, as the state was poised to start laying off as many as 20,000 government workers.

After frustrating weekend sessions that failed to break the one-vote impasse preventing them from passing a budget compromise plan to end the crisis, legislative leaders said they planned to put the tax increases in the package up for a vote Tuesday.

In addition to the layoffs, the state planned to halt all remaining public works projects, which would throw nearly 92,000 construction workers out of work. Tax refunds already have been delayed because the state has no money to pay them.

The Republican governor, who declared a fiscal emergency in December, has butted heads for months with the Democratic majority over alleviating the state's $11.2 billion revenue shortfall this fiscal year alone. The cuts would save California $750 million for the year. The state's $42 billion deficit is for the current and next fiscal years.

How long before Barry O'Bama calls for a California Bailout?

Putin Lectures American Democrats Against Socialism
You know things are out of control when Communist China is lecturing democrats on protectionism and now the former head of the KGB is lecturing US democrats against socialism.  Russian Prime Minister Vladamir Putin has said the US should take a lesson from the pages of Russian history and not exercise “excessive intervention in economic activity and blind faith in the state’s omnipotence”.  Via Gateway Pundit

According to the Tax Foundation, even if California received 9.1 billion allocated to them through the bailout, the State would still have had to raise taxes to compensate for the budgetary shortfall.

Amazing that now matter how much you spend it always comes back to the taxpayer.

The CNN link is pretty telling in my opinion. I believe that so many ARE drooling to get their hands on the money.

I'll have to agree with Conservative Scalawag. That state is a mess and good majority of the people don't deserve any bailout.

Hey, how about letting their Hollywood friends bail them out??!!

This is ridiculous! They are in trouble b/c of all the Liberal policies and excessive taxes. Cut the spending! They give healthcare and benefits to illegal immigrants. They have excessive regulations that scare of business along with high taxes.

Also, it is pathetic when a former KBG agent warns US about Socialism.

Now, where is the rabbit hole I fell in? Maybe, I can find my way back to the other side of the looking glass.

CT: Two things are certain in life: death and taxes. At this point, I think I fear taxes more than death.

HW: Yeah the Begala argument tries to put conservatives in a lose/lose situation. Take the money--you're a hypocrite, refuse the money--you're letting your ideology stand between your constituents and their well-being.

RV: a rare example of good conservative leadership.

CS: it's like a tumor that keeps getting bigger.

DaBlade: we'll let you come of with the lyrics...maybe using some anagrams.

Adrienne: Yeah Hollywood, make yourselves useful for once.

TBAA: My bet: within a week

FL: Cutting spending? That's not even in their vocabulary anymore.

The Putin speech is a shocker. And it's interesting to note that Putin understands that it's not even in Russia's interest for America to go socialist. Obama worshipers worldwide need to understand that a weakened, impoverished America is not necessarily what they need right now.

The taxpayers who are not getting their tax refunds back should revolt. Take the state to court. Demand PENALTIES and INTEREST on THEIR money the state owes them...turnabout is fair play!

They could drill their way to economic viability. They have enough oil off their coast to make them profitable within a short time. But environmentalists say this as a reason not to drill: "We would not actively pursue alternative energy, if we had the readily available oil and natural gas to use".
They deserve nothing from us. Where is Lex Luthor when you need him?
