Obama's Historic Free Fall

Whether you follow Zogby, Gallup or Rasmussen, if you watch the polls, you've noticed Obama's precipitous decline. Even The New York Times has taken note:

"...in the history of polling, no newly elected American president has fallen this far this fast."

What to do?

Ed Morrissey points out the inconvenient truth:

"Getting on TV didn’t help. Staying away from TV doesn’t appear to be helping, either. Barack Obama has to wonder how exactly he will stop the bleeding..."

Here's some surprisingly sensible advice from the King of ObamaCons, David Brooks:

"...[Obama] has to align his proposals to the values of the political center: fiscal responsibility, individual choice and decentralized authority."

In other words, Obama should keep his campaign promises. Ordinarily, that would be very sound advice. But the problem with that strategy is that Obama has made too many contradictory promises. During his campaign, Obama created a loony fantasyone in which government grows, spending is kept under control, taxes don't go up, and the economy improves.

Insanity.

Obviously this was a message that succeeded not on the basis of its substance, but through the force of Obama's media-driven charisma. As the The Wall Street Journal put it, "The politics of charisma is so Third World. Americans were never going to buy into it for long."

53% disapprove, 43% approve. That result marks the first time in a CNN poll that a majority of independents give the president's performance a thumbs-down.

Obama's fall from grace can be compared thus:
After having so many of our great forested lands chopped down by orcs (an oppressively, over-legislative government) we Ents have awakened, and are holding our Entmoots (townhalls) in preparation for our great march on Isengard. In the end we Ents will destroy the stranglehold of evil and cast out Saruman Obama!

Commoncents: Thank you. You're on my "great minds like a think" blogroll.

That's how Clinton saved himself. He moved to the right. I don't think Obama will surrender his hate for what this country stands for to give up the views he wants to force upon Americans.

I like the comparison Steve.

BB: I think you're exactly right. That's the essential difference between Obama and Clinton. Clinton just wanted to move the country to the left. Obama wants to remake the country.

You can bet they're reading the polls every day. In their worst moments, they fear they're seeing their grand Socialist dream disappearing.

The American people cannot stop the resistance. It may be working.

David Brooks...? what do you know..I thought he was completely lost in his silly attempts at appearing so centrist. blech

I can't say it better than this "I don't think Obama will surrender his hate for what this country stands for to give up the views he wants to force upon Americans."

Good one, Bungalow Bill.
Super post, RK......

Don't trust this "no public option from obama" news. Watch for the sleight of hand (or tongue) from this guy. He has NEVER meant everything he has said, so if his tongue moves to the right he will just be slurring his speech.
