The Growing Power of Social Media in Politics

John Culberson:

"We could move heaven and earth when the American people understand the power of social media, and everybody is simultaneously, of their own free will, asking their elected representatives to take action. There's not an elected official in the nation who could withstand that. And we the people, we'll take back our government — once people understand how easy this is."

If you've ever wondered if you would enjoy using the new social media (such as Twitter), or if you've wondered if these tools hold potential to affect powerful changes in the political world, I urge you to watch the video below. In this fascinating video, Rep. John Culberson (R-TX) talks about his enjoyable experience on Twitter, Facebook and Qik, and he shows how the social media help him stay in contact with his district. In the latter part of the piece, Culberson explains how Twitter will transform politics in Washington, and he tells us how the social media fit into his strategy to defeat the Obama/Pelosi agenda. You will enjoy this great video!

From the comments:
  • I love this guy! Great video, I normally don't sit still to watch a whole 5 minutes, but I watched all 25 minutes or so of this one. He's fascinating and I like the idea that he particularly seems to enjoy thwarting Nancy Pelosi!
  • Holy L.A. smoke RK! You SO undersold this John Culberson vid! ... Simply required viewing ... 5-stars for the day! Woot!

I think social media has been just as powerful if not more in the fight against nationalized healthcare as talk radio.

BB: Agree. Talk radio creates the sparks, social media add fuel to the fire.

Free flow of information is the enemy of Marxism. It is the mother's milk of Liberty.

What is the mother's milk of Marxist Socialism? The MSM.

NG: Agree. Free flow of information has changed everything.

MSM = Marxist Socialist Media? Interesting thought.

Janie: Same here. I saw the last 2 minutes on TV and pulled it up online to see the whole show. I rarely make time to watch vids that long, but Culberson really knows how to keep it interesting.

You say this post's 'for me'? Heh, you must know I DON"T SOCIAL MEDIA! No Twitter, no FaceBook...nada!
I swear, I'm such a techtard that it's a wonder I have a blog at all!!

Okay, okay..maybe I have to reconsider, but I don't WANT TO! xx

Z: Blogging counts as social media, but too many great bloggers are conspicuously AWOL on the Twitter scene. Sad thing is, they don't know what they're missing.

Holy L.A. smoke RK! You SO undersold this John Culberson vid! We mean we looked at your entry about it being a "great vid" but almost didn't watch it...a 25 minute vid?!?
This should be a great great great vid along the order of watching speeches from the Voters Values Summit or listening to the great Ronald Reagan. Simply required viewing.
Seriously, you blew us away again and get 5-stars for the day*****! Woot!

nacilbupera: Thank you. I was concerned that length of the vid would be a problem. I'll put your comment and Janie Lynn's comment in the post to encourage the faint of heart!
