Jeffrey Goldberg: Let The Israelis Burn in Hell

How many people died in the fires? Who cares! Not content to withhold his own charitable donation in anonymous obeisance to his cruel and twisted logic, Jeffrey Goldberg publicly urges you to let Israeli forest fire victims choke on the ashes:
Don't Give to the Jewish National Fund...

Inevitably, the Jewish National Fund, which, among other things, plants forests in Israel, is asking for donations from Americans for its "Forest Fire Emergency Campaign," in response to the massive fire spreading across the Carmel mountains. But I'm not giving.

Israel's per capita GDP is nearly $30,000. Israel is a rich country. The fact that it doesn't possess adequate firefighting equipment is its own fault. The fact that the leadership of its fire service is incompetent is its own fault...

At some point, the good-hearted Diaspora Jews who still think of Israel as a charity case are going to have to tell their cousins to learn to fully-fund basic services like firefighting if they want to be thought of as citizens of an advanced country.

...Israel's national fire service should be funded by Israel's government, not by the people of Boca Raton, Potomac and the Upper West Side.

...I'm not going to contribute funds that might serve to paper-over the government's inadequacies.
Amazing! Do liberals hate private, voluntary charity this much? Or is this an indication of how much they despise Israel?

I'll admit ― I'm very confused.

I don't remember lefties applying this logic to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Don't buy into the wealth argument. Louisianans are significantly more wealthy than Israelis. Don't buy the "we need to teach irresponsible government a lesson" argument either. Jeffrey Goldberg and like-minded leftist loons weren't asking anyone to withhold Katrina donations lest we "paper-over the government's inadequacies."

This is the kind of help Goldberg doesn't want you to provide:
The Fire Department also is in desperate need of infra-red cameras that help the fire fighters search for trapped people when they enter a burning house. Cameras cost about $15,000 each.
Jeffrey Goldberg is sick. Goldberg's liberal peers should denounce his disgusting directive.

Afterthought: I don't remember lefties calling for cold, hard, tough love after this, either.

Discussion: Memeorandum

The lefties love to hate. They especially hate fair-minded democracies, because they don't control the people. They especially hate charity, because they don't control the funds.

Israel is an oasis of western sense in a sea of totalitarianism. They have their hands full with national defense. If they cut a few corners on fire fighting equipment, let us help them until they correct the problem. Are we good neighbors or not!

I personally had my home partially damaged in the CA wildfire 2 years ago. The fire department FAILED TO SHOW UP FOR 2 HOURS! Why? Oh, maybe they were not prepared for the firestorm. Maybe they were not prepared for wind-whipped flames setting fire to 200 houses at once in scattered locations.

We didn't lose lives here, and I don't know how. The flames leaped miles in minutes from hilltop to hilltop. If anybody had been infirm and alone, they would have been goners. The smoke and flames came so hot and fast, I could not drive toward them to check on my neighbors. I had to drive away so that I and my kids could breathe.
