Barney Frank and Scott Brown

Barney Frank's initial reaction to Scott Brown's Massachusetts victory was a bit surprising:

I have two reactions to the election in Massachusetts. One, I am disappointed. Two, I feel strongly that the Democratic majority in Congress must respect the process and make no effort to bypass the electoral results.

When did Barney become such a reasonable guy?

I wondered if Scott Brown had carried Barney's district, but I could not find hard data specifically pertaining to Barney's gerrymandered neck of the woods. Just for you, I chased down the data and crunched the numbers.

The results confirmed the stories circulating on the web. Amazingly, Scott Brown did win the majority of the votes in Barney Frank's Congressional District in Tuesday's election.

Here are the raw numbers:

Scott Brown: 116,765
Martha Coakley: 113,831
Joe Kennedy: 2,069

In 2008, Frank won his district with 64.3% of the vote. In 2006, he was uncontested and took 98.48% of the vote.

Perhaps with the results of Tuesday's election in hand, Frank will feel compelled to take his constituents' concerns more seriously. Maybe he'll cut back on insults:

Hey...loopy LaRouchies have feelings too!

Hat tip to the Fall River Board of Election Commissioners for precinct level data from Tuesday's election. Thank you!

Red invades Blue, Red wins. The Massachusetts miracle is a fait accompli. Now what?

Prepare for November.

We have a long way to go, and a short time to get there.

Great candidates are emerging all over the country. Here are some of my favorites:
It's not just about winning seats. The future of our country is at stake. We have to recruit and promote the very best candidates we can find:

...the conservative base in the United States, far from dragging their party moblike into an unelectable extreme, has made the decentralized decision to support the realistically best candidate they can relative to the context in which he’s being elected. The 23rd special district election can also be seen in this light; throwing Scozzafava overboard made far more sense in the context of that electorate.

During Obama's first year in office, conservatives have done a surprisingly good job of choosing battles wisely. As a result, we had an important victory this week. But we didn’t cross a finish line on Tuesday night — we crossed the starting line.

It's Scott Brown's Seat!

The AP calls the Massachusetts Senate election for the Republican. Coakley concedes.

Congratulations Scott Brown!

Just in time for the first anniversary of the Obama regime, the Bay State delivers the the best gift a conservative pundit could hope for!

The Senate spot formerly known as "the Kennedy seat" has been returned to the people. Stunning skeptics, Scott Brown turned the dream into a reality. Pundits be darned, a principled centrist Republican has pulled off the Massachusetts miracle. This brilliant campaign will be one for the textbooks.

ObamaCare is dead. Ignore the incoherent bluster coming from bitter Democrats who are still clinging to the rapidly-fading Kennedy legacy. Brown's victory will be more than enough to push Obama's agenda off the precipice.

Forget "reconciliation," GOP defections, and banning the filibuster. No, the Dems aren't bluffing about these things, they're just in denial. They're hoping for a miracle of their own.

Too Little, too late. It's over.

The results of today's election show us that 2012 will be a very bad year for incumbents, and that's just fine with me. Thank you Massachusetts!

Support Chuck DeVore

Here at RightKlik, we're always looking forward. Even before Obama's inevitable victory in 2008, we were blogging about who might beat him in 2012.

Obviously we don't know what will happen on Tuesday in Massachusetts, but things are looking very good for Scott Brown. No matter what happens, Brown has proven that the GOP can do very well in the deepest of blue states.

The tide has turned.

Twenty-ten is shaping up to be a very bad year for incumbents all over the country, so the GOP can expect to do exceptionally well in November. Now is the time to begin helping conservative candidates take over the Republican Party. If we're lazy, too many bland McCainiacs and Lindsay Graham types will rush in to fill the Democrat void.

To illustrate the point, let's draw our attention to another very important race.

The latest numbers from Rasmussen show that in the race to replace H.R.H. Senator Barbara Boxer, Chuck DeVore, the true conservative, polls surprisingly well. The establishment Republican, while better known, is doing only a tiny bit better.

DeVore is a bright, capable and articulate candidate who has been endorsed by Jim DeMint. He deserves serious attention from conservatives all over the country who are interested in seeing a more conservative and competent GOP.

If you don't know much about Chuck DeVore, I challenge you to learn more, and to consider supporting his effort to dethrone Barbara Boxer.

Coakley's Self-Destruction

On Monday, Martha Coakley performed quite poorly at the final debate in Massachusetts for the open U.S. Senate seat. Her most notable gaffe was her declaration that we should cut and run from Afghanistan because the terrorists are all gone. *gasp*

That gaffe led directly to the next campaign disaster.

On Tuesday, while her opponent was on the campaign trail back home in Massachusetts, Coakley was in D.C. collecting contributions from K Street corruptocrats. Immediately after the fundraiser, Coakley was asked about her Afghanistan gaffe by a reporter who was promptly attacked by one of Coakley's staffers.

Coakley stood by and did nothing during the attack, claiming that she didn't see anything. Video and photographic evidence (via RedState) would suggest otherwise:

As if to definitively prove that she wants to lose this race, Coakley has added a touch of regal snobbery to the mix with comments about those icky commoners at Fenway Park. Her loyal supporters at The Boston Globe reluctantly take note:

...there is a subdued, almost dispassionate quality to her public appearances, which are surprisingly few. Her voice is not hoarse from late-night rallies. Even yesterday, the day after a hard-hitting debate, she had no public campaign appearances in the state.

Coakley bristles at the suggestion that, with so little time left, in an election with such high stakes, she is being too passive.

“As opposed to standing outside Fenway Park? In the cold? Shaking hands?'' she fires back, in an apparent reference to a Brown online video of him doing just that...

Shaking hands? At Fenway Park? How vulgar!

William A. Jacobson ponders:

Maybe Coakley forgot how near and dear Fenway was to Ted Kennedy, who threw out the first pitch last season in what everyone knew would be his last opening day. Or the Tribute to Kennedy in August at Fenway.

Insulting Fenway fans. Now that's a plan.

Yes, a very good plan...for self-destruction.

We can only wonder what has been going through Coakley's mind lately, but perhaps this picture will shed some light on some of her odd behavior:

Coakley's Joke

If you're interested in seeing the entirety of Monday's debate between Martha Coakley and Scott Brown, you can see it here, at the C-SPAN website.

I won't comment on the debate except to say that Scott Brown was the clear winner ― moderator David Gergen being a distant second.

If you don't have time to watch the whole debate, here's a twelve second clip, my favorite portion of the hour-long tug of war:

Martha Coakley: "I'm not tax and spend." I'm "conservative" and "fiscally responsible!"

Quite a sign of the times when a liberal Democrat from Massachusetts calls herself "conservative."

Democrat-Supporting Pollster: Brown +1

Public Policy Polling has Scott Brown ahead by one point in the Massachusetts Senate race!

On Tuesday, when Rasmussen found that Scott Brown and his Democratic opponent were separated by single digits, liberals were incredulous. The New York Times claimed that Rasmussen's polls are essentially worthless.

Now that PPP (a liberal pollster) has produced these numbers, Democrats will be forced to admit that Brown has built considerable momentum. In mere weeks, Brown has surged from a 30 point deficit. Now it's a toss up.

Even Brown's Eeyores should be smiling now.

Some Details:
  • 66% of GOP voters say they are 'very excited' about casting their votes, while only 48% of Democrats express that sentiment.
  • Brown holds a 63-31 lead with independent voters.
  • Among voters who have a negative take on both parties, Brown leads 74-21.
  • Brown's favorability spread is a remarkable +32 (57/25).
Here's the REALLY good news for Brown:

Those folks planning to vote in the special election are actually opposed to Obama’shealth care plan by a 47/41 margin and only narrowly express approval of the President’s overall job performance 44/43.

If the Massachusetts Senate race is a referendum on ObamaCare, Scott Brown could do very well on January 19.

Full poll results here.
