Obama's Unicorns Are Coming Home to Roost

They say Obama is spectacularly popular? Of course they do. They're in love with him.

Let's put all the media fanfare into proper perspective. Obama's current popularity is in no way unprecedented. When looking back over the past 60 years, Obama's popularity at the 100-day landmark is not the slightest bit impressive:

Way to go Obama, you're shoulder to shoulder with Richard Millhouse Nixon!

Obama's approval index should be worrying Obamaphiles. The approval index is determined by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve. As of 5/2/09, Obama's Presidential Approval Index rating is +1. That's down from a rating of +21 on 1/21/2009.

It's much too early for Obama supporters to get comfortable with Obama's popularity.

But Obama is the one we have been waiting forand the change we can believe in! How can this be happening? Obama's net approval is dropping because his unicorns have come home to roost.

"The contradictions between Obama's words and actions are many. He opposes big government, and then he vastly expands it. He says he favors bipartisanship, but doesn't practice it. He says he is against earmarks, and then signs the largest pork package in history. And that is just to name a few."

We no longer have the luxury of imagining Obama is whatever we want him to be. The fantasy is over; Obama is a real president making real mistakes.
