My Letter to Obama

My letter to Obama, sent via USPS on April 1:

Dear Mr. President, 

As a peaceful, law-abiding taxpayer, I urge you to stand by the statements and commitments you have made.

• "...absolutely, we need earmark reform.  And when I'm president, I will go line by line to make sure that we are not spending money unwisely."

• "When there is a bill that ends up on my desk as the president, you the public will have five days to look online and find out what's in it before I sign it."

• "Obama and Biden review the federal budget line by line and eliminate programs that don't work or are unnecessary."

• "I've always been a strong believer in the power of the free market.  It has been and will remain the very engine of America's progress — the source of a prosperity that has gone unmatched in human history,"

• "The United States government has no interest in running GM.  We have no intention of running GM."

• "Not because I believe in bigger government, I don't."

• "Transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency..."

Your actions thus far have been inconsistent with these statements.

As a member of the "loyal opposition" I want America to succeed.  I believe that if you stand firm and follow through with these statements, America will continue to grow and prosper, and you will enjoy robust support.

Tea Bags For Washington?

The Tea Party protests, in their current form, began in February when Rick Santelli, the On Air Editor for CNBC, set out on a rant to expose the bankrupt liberal agenda of the White House Administration and Congress... specifically, the flawed “Stimulus Bill” and the pork filled budget.

Since that time the Tea Party idea has grown considerably.  Tens of thousands of people all over the country have attended Tea Party protests.  Many thousands more will join in protest on April 15.  Countless others have been inspired to send a message directly to the greedy pigs in Washington to let them know they've crossed the line: they've recklessly burdened future generations, they've seized too much money and they've usurped too much power.

How best to send this message?  A tea bag?  An appealing idea, but probably not a good one.

In most respects, Washington goes about it's business with a September 10th mentality.  But when it comes to the personal safety of our fearless federal officials, the lessons of 9-11 are still fresh.  So would your tea bag make it to your senator or end up in the trash?  I hate to think that such a good idea would literally go to waste. So I offer other suggestions:

Mail empty tea bags, strings with the labels, pictures of tea, Tea Party postcards or other Tea Party stuff to:

1.  Your Representative 

2.  Your Senator

3.  Your Governor

4.  The IRS

5.  The Federal Reserve

6.  Treasury Secretary Geithner

7.  Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid or Barney Frank

8.  Arlen Specter, Olympia Snow or Susan Collins

9.  Barry Obama

Another idea: A well thought out and personal letter, accompanied by a photocopy of your voter registration card would grab the attention of lawmakers.

People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.  Let's hit the government with multiple intimidating waves of [peaceful and legal] protest.  April 1, April 15, July 4, December 16...
