Another Tea Party victory, another GOP establishment scalp collected:
Cruz, a Cuban-American lawyer who formerly served as state solicitor general, received 54 percent to 46 percent for Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst with 20 percent of precincts reporting.
Cruz richly deserved to win:
Mr. Cruz’s personal credentials are sterling: An authentic conservative intellectual, he was a star at Princeton and Harvard law, winning the admiration of thinkers as politically opposed as Robert P. George and Alan Dershowitz. He clerked on the Supreme Court under William Rehnquist and is an unwavering defender of our constitutional order.
Time to pat yourselves on the back, Tea Partiers:
Conservatives saw this coming more than a year ago. The New York Times was profiling Cruz last fall, because Tea Party groups kept telling reporters to check out Cruz. They are and were sophisticated. Picking Cruz over Dewhurst makes perfect political sense...
Thank you, Texas.
