Martha Coakley is Wicked

Martha Coakley is wicked. And I'm not using "wicked" in the New Englander's complementary sense of the word.

As Ann Coulter notes, "Martha Coakley [is] too immoral for Teddy Kennedy's seat." You don't have to be a hyper-partisan right-wing pundit in order to come to that conclusion. Hyper-partisan left-wing pundits know it's true, too.

Here's what the liberals at Daily Kos think:

Coakley is a careerist and supported her two former bosses in the Middlesex DA's office as they ran for governor—Scott Harshbarger and Tom Reilly, who was clearly the least progressive candidate in the last Dem primary for governor.

Far more damning is her continued support of Harshbarger and Reilly's involvement in one of the worst cases of child sexual abuse hysteria of the '80s—the Fells Acres case. A mother and two adult children (Violet and Cheryl and Gerald Amirault) were convicted and sent to prison for very lengthy sentences (Gerald served 18 years) on the basis of vigorously coached and outlandish testimony from children. Harshbarger and Reilly sacrificed children (by implanting "memories") and the Amirault family for their political ambitions, even long after the nation recognized the hysteria involved in most of the allegations of sexual abuse in daycare centers.

The poor kids in this scandal were unwitting pawns in one of the most insane witch hunts in the history of Massachusetts.

Supposedly Gerald dressed up as a clown and assaulted the children in a secret or magic room. Some children claimed to be sodomized with two foot knives and lobsters. Some of the acts allegedly took place on the front lawn in full view of the highway.

John Stossel documented the depraved quest for power and money in this short video.

To make a long story short, Coakley allowed her ambition to trump human decency as she did everything in her power to keep an innocent man in prison for several years. Unfortunately, Coakley succeeded, and she built her career on this grave injustice.

Here's a great quote that sums up the whole affair rather well:

"If Senator Edward Kennedy was a lion in the cause of justice, and there is some debate about that, then Martha Coakley is a barn cat whose actions are based on primitive instinctual forces of political survival and savagery. Her lack of a sense of what constitutes justice and injustice makes Martha Coakley unfit to be a United States senator, particularly considering she would be filling Ted Kennedy's shoes."

No wonder Coakley is ducking debates and hiding in the shadows.

Knocking Down the Dems Ahead of Schedule

A couple of weeks ago, Rush Limbaugh made some particularly interesting comments:

[N]ationalize every House race in 2010, nationalize every Senate race in 2010, just as those elections were nationalized in 1994.

...Position these people as nationwide leftist radicals with their impact not just in the district but throughout the country. That worked magic in 1994. That's part of the strategery next November. That's going to have to be done.

[emphasis added]

We don't have to wait until November to begin clawing back power from the Democrats. Our first opportunity comes on January 19, when Massachusetts voters will choose Ted Kennedy's replacement in the U.S. Senate. Scott P. Brown, a Republican, is opposing Martha M. Coakley, a Democrat.

If Scott Brown wins, Obama loses his 60th vote in the Senate. The Democrat's filibuster-proof majority would be history.

Introducing Scott Brown:

Mr. Brown, 50, is a lawyer and a lieutenant colonel in the Massachusetts National Guard who has served in the state legislature since 1996. He opposes same-sex marriage and the health care legislation being debated in Congress, and supports President Obama’s decision to send more troops to Afghanistan.

Some thoughts from an optimist from Massachusetts:

• With local media outlets already declaring Coakley our next senator, Martha’s infamous coasting will become even more pronounced. She will put next to nothing into her effort from here, saving campaign funds for future purposes.

• Since Coakley’s supporters now assume the race is over, they will do little campaigning over the holidays.

• Given that backdrop, turnout on January 19 will be even lower than today’s. We could be well into single digits across the Commonwealth. Motivating your base, even one as small as the GOP’s, makes it possible to overcome that.

• At the national level, Democrats are busy alienating almost every group, from the far-left to moderates, which further depresses turnout as supporters become disillusioned.

• Oddly enough, the one media outlet seeing a potential victory path for Brown, if remote, is the New York Times

In the midst of the major holidays, a terrorist attack, the health care fight, a dreary economy and a recent disappointment in NY-23, many conservatives and Tea Party activists might not have the time, money or inclination to invest in a Hail Mary pass in Massachusetts.

Perhaps persuading voters in the People's Republic of Massachusetts* to replace Ted Kennedy with a Republican is the mother of all long shots...but I see it as an opportunity. Even with a Coakley victory (if it follows a tougher-than-expected race), conservatives could send an important message to the Democrats: "Take nothing for granted."

*Actually, conservatives are as plentiful as liberals in Massachusetts. Gallup's numbers: 30% conservative, 29% liberal, 38% Moderate.

The constitutionality of the Democrats' health care bill has been called into question repeatedly . While some in Congress have scoffed at the idea that the U.S. Constitution is even relevant in the health care debate, others have been looking for ways to violate the Constitution to ensure that ObamaCare cannot be rolled back by future Congresses.

Rhetorical question: Doesn't Congress derive it's power from the U.S. Constitution? Having no other foundation on which to base its authority, a Congress that seeks to undermine the Constitution undermines itself.

As a U.S. citizen, I do not accept the authority of any "legislative body" that ignores the U.S. Constitution. If Congress ignores the Constitution, we the people should ignore Congress.

As U.S. citizens, our rights are inalienable. Anyone who even attempts to violate our rights forfeits all legitimacy and authority.

A Very Bad Sign

The odds of beating ObamaCare are looking increasingly long.

Here's an especially troubling bit of news:

The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America [PhRMA], a key White House ally in the healthcare reform push, has lobbied heavily against [pharmaceutical] re-importation...and would likely not support the final bill if it was included in the package.

Speaking on CNN’s "State of the Union," David Axelrod, Obama’s top political aide, said the White House still favors drug re-importation and wants to move forward on it. “Let me be clear. The president supports re-importation. As he said, safe re-importation of drugs into this country. There’s no reason why the Americans should pay a premium for pharmaceuticals that people in other countries pay less for,” Axelrod said. “We will move forward on it.”

CNN’s John King countered, “Just not in this healthcare reform?”

“Yes,” Axelrod said. “The president is committed to move forward once we resolve the issues that the [Food and Drug Administration (FDA)] has. That is his responsibility, to protect the American people.”

This is a nasty betrayal of PhRMA, but PhRMA was idiotic to make a deal with Obama, and now they're getting what they deserve. I'm not going to shed a tear for the pharmaceutical industry. But here's why I'm particularly concerned: If the Obama administration is so confident about the health care bill's passage that they're already throwing big PhRMA under the bus, ObamaCare is a done deal.

But we need to continue the fight...even if we're defeated, we need to make this a Pyrrhic victory for the Democrats.
