TBF Congratulates B.J. Lawson

B.J. Lawson wins this week's "Ten Buck Fridays" poll.

B.J. Lawson is a young physician from North Carolina (NC-04) who was running against an entrenched liberal incumbent back in 2008, before it was so cool to do so. Dr. Lawson has returned in 2010, riding the red wave that promises to sweep away liberals all over the country.

Lawson has been endorsed by the U.S. Senate's most courageously stubborn defender of the Constitution, Tom Coburn (R-OK).

Senator Tom Coburn, the leading Medical Doctor in the U.S. Senate endorsed B.J. Lawson today.

"Our health care system is broken, and has only been made worse by this administration's actions. Americans face skyrocketing medical costs with declining quality and availability due to oppressive big government policies.

Reversing these trends demands leadership that will return health care to patients and physicians, and get government and insurance bureaucracies out of our exam rooms.

I'm proud to endorse Dr. William (B.J.) Lawson in his campaign for Congress in North Carolina's 4th District. As physicians, we have sworn to uphold the Hippocratic Oath -- putting patients first, and above all else, doing no harm. As public servants, we swear to uphold the United States Constitution and protect the freedoms of the American people. Dr. Lawson will stand with me in the United States Congress in support of these sacred principles.

I hope that conservative bloggers across the country will join me in promoting and supporting B.J. Lawson for Congress. If you can, please send a few dollars his way...

Time to Say No

Saying no at the right time saves lives…saying no at the right time saves liberty:

This makes me want to move to Oklahoma.

Dr. Coburn's Lethal Injection?

Finally, a GOP Senator with some courage. Senator Tom Coburn is forcing the reading of Bernie Sanders' 800 page single-payer health care amendment. This is huge:

The normal procedure on the Senate floor would have been to dispense with the reading of the amendment. But “to alert taxpayers to this latest Washington scheme to take away your health care decisions,” Senator Coburn’s office writes, Sen. Coburn demanded that the full text of the 767 page Sanders amendment be read by the Senate clerk.

Watch it live.

It took eighteen minutes just to get through the table of contents … for an amendment. Philip [Klein] says the pace picked up a bit afterward, and the entire amendment could be read within about 12 hours. That’s twelve hours of floor time, assuming Coburn keeps withholding unanimous consent.

What does this do? It makes a hash out of Harry Reid’s plan to move the bill through the Senate by Christmas. Twelve hours of floor time for just a single amendment means that no other business can be conducted until at least Friday. Coburn apparently launched this effort in response to an attempt by Reid to shove the bill to a cloture vote without giving everyone enough time to read the bill or peruse the CBO analysis, due this week.

By throwing Senate Democrats off of their very tight schedule, pushing the ObamaCare into 2010, Coburn's move could potentially amount to a lethal injection.

Conservatives, moderates, liberals, the voters & the GOP agree: Kill the Bill! Contact Senator Coburn to thank him doing all of us a huge favor:

Sanders is withdrawing his amendment with great theatrics (2:45 p.m.).

Now let's read the rest of the legislation.

Let The Bill Filibuster Itself

Tom Coburn has a great idea. He wants to read the Democrats' Health Care Bill on the floor of the Senate...in its entirety!

Sen. Tom Coburn, the Oklahoma Republican who developed a close friendship with President Obama when they served together in the Senate, is threatening to have the entire health care bill read on the Senate floor.

Coburn is serious.

“My mission is to frame this health care debate in terms of the fiscal ruin of this country. … I have instructed my staff to clear my schedule for every minute that bill is on the floor.”

Known as "the Senate Naysayer", "Dr. No", and "Dr. I Know Best", Dr. Coburn has a well-established reputation:

Mr. Coburn has complained to other senators about the “timidity” of the Republican leader, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, and his deputies. As a member of the House, Mr. Coburn similarly gained a reputation as an acute pain in the tailbone to the Republican leadership.

And if Senator Coburn chooses to continue inflicting pain, he could do a world of good in the effort to stop the mad dash to ram ObamaCare through the Senate:

If Coburn and other Republicans force floor readings of the bill, that may drift into March or April. If Coburn insists on a floor reading every time the bill gets amended, it may be summertime before they can get around to it.

In effect, it would allow Coburn to have the bill filibuster itself.

Let's encourge Dr. Coburn to follow through with his plan. Here is his contact information:
