This photo will get President Obama a lot of approving nods in Japan this weekend, especially among the older generation of Japanese, who still pay attention to the royal family living in its downtown castle. Very low bows like this are a sign of great respect and deference to a superior.
Time for a quick review of statements from our groveler-in-chief:
- "I'm always worried about using the word 'victory,' because, you know, it invokes this notion of Emperor Hirohito coming down and signing a surrender to MacArthur."
- "We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK. That's not leadership. That's not going to happen."
- "...there have been times where America has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive."
- "In America, there is a failure to appreciate Europe's leading role in the world."
- "Too often, the United States has not pursued and sustained engagement with our neighbors. We have been too easily distracted by other priorities, and have failed to see that our own progress is tied directly to progress throughout the Americas."
- "I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism, and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism.”
- "... All too often the United States starts by dictating."

All too often, Obama starts by groveling.

How Low Will He Go?
Politico: Obama bowed to Japanese emperor as 'protocol'. End of story. Move along. Nothing to see here.
