Obama and the Dems "Refudiated" in New York City

Angry Weiners

The Democrats spent a massive heap of money in NYC to keep the Weiner seat, but it looks like they just got "refudiated." The Dems' huge registration advantage (3-to-1) wasn't enough to save the day.

The Dems will say this is no big deal, but they invested heavily in this race for a very good reason: This defeat is historic. The Dems have reigned supreme in this territory since 1923.

Discussion: Memeorandum

Update I:
Longtime New York City Democratic analyst Hank Sheinkopf says there is no doubt the voters were trying to send a message to the White House and Democrats should see Tuesday’s results as a bellwether for 2012.

“The Democrats said no to Obama, no to his economic plan, and no to his position on Israel,” Sheinkopf told ABC News. “It’s major smack at Democrats, a definite rejection of President Obama and it’s a warning that says if Catholics in the most blue of blue states can vote for the Republican they can do it in other states as well and the Democrats may have real trouble.”
(via ABC News)

William A. Jacobson points out that this district (NY-09) is heavily Jewish and Asian. There's no way for the Democrats to put a positive spin on that.

Update II: The LA Times puts their spin on it...
Reporting from Washington— Democrats suffered a stunning blow Tuesday as voters in New York's 9th Congressional District chose a novice Republican to replace disgraced Democrat Anthony Weiner in an election that became a referendum on President Obama.

With more than 90% of precincts reporting, Bob Turner, a retired television executive best known for producing "The Jerry Springer Show," had 53% of the vote in unofficial returns, election officials said. Democrat Dave Weprin, a state assemblyman from a politically connected family, had 46%.

Update III: The Washinton Post reports...
Turner’s victory is regarded as an upset given the Democratic history of the 9th district, which takes in portions of Brooklyn and Queens, as well as the fact that President Obama carried the seat by 11 points in 2008.

“New Yorkers put Washington Democrats on notice that voters are losing confidence in a President whose policies assault job-creators and affront Israel,” said National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Pete Sessions (R-Texas) in a statement after Turner’s win.

Update IV:

Refudiatation in Nevada!

Update V: Hugh Hewitt opines...
There is no spinning this for the left, no way top dress it up as other than a complete repudiation for the president and his supporters in the Congress.

Only an incumbent who is indifferent to re-election will back Stimulus 2.0 or indulge the president's Alinskyite rhetoric, much less his pattern of anti-Israel actions.

Update VI: FAM via TOM...
This is also the ... congressional seat that was once held by far left Marxist Chuck Schumer, and even 1984 VP nominee Geraldine Ferraro.

Update VII: Via National Review...

Turner has been on the phone with John Boehner and is about to take stage. Here’s one of the signs among the crowd:

It says “Mazel tov, Bob”.

Update VIII:
NY1 TV says Dems did very well in local races in contrast to Congressional race, more proof the NY-09 race had national implications.

Update IX:

Do you hear that? It's the sound of crickets at liberal Daily Kos.

Update X:

Update XI:

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee...

"In this district, there is a large number of people who went to the polls tonight who didn’t support the president to begin with and don’t support Democrats — and it’s nothing more than that."

Wow! What a massive lie. The district is D+5 with a 3:1 registration advantage for Democrats. The district most certainly supported Obama "to begin with" in 2008 when the voters gave Obama an easy double digit win (55%-44% for Barack Obama over John McCain).

Update XII: Keith Koffler via Pundette...
In 2010, a bad year for Democrats, Weiner defeated Turner by 20 points. The wave of anger at the president and his policies that brought about Republican control of the House seems even more intense today.

Obama: "I Would Resign"

When the little messiah from Chicago says you should resign, what do you do?
In an exclusive interview with TODAY’s Ann Curry that will air on Tuesday’s show, President Barack Obama said that if he were Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner right now, he would resign in the wake of the scandal in which Weiner admitted to sending explicit photos of himself to women online.

“I can tell you that if it was me, I would resign,’’ Obama told Curry.
Mene, mene, tekel, upharsin...

So will Weiner resign? Robert Stacy McCain says that if we're waiting for shame to drive the Weiner out of office, we shouldn't hold our breath:
Is the "possibility" of Weiner quitting likely? Despite the public calls for his resignation from top Democrats, under House rules Weiner can't be expelled from Congress until the Ethics Committee conducts an investigation, which could take months. Whatever might motivate Weiner to quit, it obviously can't be shame. Anyone who has seen the middle-aged congressman's photo self-portrait of himself posing naked in front a gym mirror must conclude that Weiner is utterly shameless.
...hence Weiner's uncomfortable position beneath Obama's bus.

Politico Blames Conservative Blogger for Anthony's Weiner ― UPDATE: Conservative Blogger Takes Credit!

Ben Smith makes a bold assumption at Politico. That lewd picture sent from Rep. Anthony Weiner's Twitter account to the coed in Washington Smith is very confident that it came from a conservative blogger:
She blames an anonymous person who "had harassed me many times after the Congressman followed me on Twitter a month or so ago" -- likely a conservative blogger who's been focusing on Weiner's Twitter feed -- for ginning up the storm.

The statement doesn't say whether she's been in touch with Weiner amid the recent fuss, but it has a kind of comprehensiveness and force that make it quite effective.

UPDATE:

You know what, y'all? Since it's already become so obvious, I'm going to go ahead and take responsibility for this one.

Q: What was Weiner's Twitter password?

A: ScrappyLuvsBBW69.

Same for his yfrog acccount. Duh!

Q: Isn't it a strange coincidence that among the mere 91 people Weiner followed, one just happened to be a busty coed with a crush on him, who called him her "boyfriend?"

A: I added Gennette Cordova to Weiner's list shortly after I successfully guessed his password.

Here's another question from Ace:

Q: The Comely Coed called Weiner her "boyfriend" and friends commented that she had a "crush" on him. Are we to believe the hacker knew the one woman in the world who might be interested in a dic-pic from the homely anteater Anthony Weiner?

A: I'm singularly obsessed with Anthony Weiner. Don't ask me why. I started blogging about him long before I "ginned up this storm." I follow Weiner's tweets on Twitter, and I track his followers' tweets by searching "@RepWeiner" several times each day. After monitoring Weiner's Twitter activity, it became obvious that Weiner's self-proclaimed "girlfriend," Gennette Cordova, was the ideal candidate for an epic online prank.

Q: Those skinny legs in that picture?

A: Weiner and I are virtually identical from the waist down.

~~~
Seriously. I did this. I don't know why Weiner hasn't come after me already. My prank may have been brilliant, but I'm really not very tech savvy. I should have been caught by now. I cannot answer the questions that I do not have the answers to.
Any more questions?
UPDATE II:
RS McCain seems to think I'm joking. Oh well, thanks for the link!
All Weiner, All The Time ― UPDATE: Gennette Nicole Cordova pictures
Weiner-gate buzz is dominating the discussion at Memeorandum.
Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) has been accused of sending a picture of his scantily clad "member" to Gennette Nicole Cordova, a 21-year-old college student in Washington.
The notorious picture is HERE. If you don't want to see "it," don't click!
In case you forgot, this is the congressman who wants an ObamaCare waiver for NYC. But he is the self-proclaimed architect of Obamacare.
"I basically read the bill, wrote the bill ― the bill and I are one."
Flawed legislation from a flawed man.
Weiner has denied the accusations of impropriety thus far.
I Want A Weiner Waiver
Obama's propagandists are quick to point out that among the hefty majority of Americans who are opposed to ObamaCare, a tiny fraction* tell pollsters that the legislation's "approach toward health care is is not liberal enough."
Not liberal enough? What does that mean? Who are these uber-liberal people, and what do they really want?
Notable point: Over 1000 ObamaCare waivers have been handed out, and a great many of those waivers have been awarded to groups who cry out for increasingly liberal health care schemes. But for their own health care needs, these liberals prefer the ultra-conservative status quo.
Examples ―
Now even the Weiner is looking for a way out.
Anthony Weiner (WEE-nur), the self-proclaimed author and embodiment of Obamacare, is looking for a waiver favor:
Last year, New York Rep. Anthony Weiner took personal ownership of the magnificent health care law, even to the point of proclaiming “the bill and I are one” like a monk trying to attain enlightenment using nothing but willpower, outbursts and a trillion dollars of other people’s money. In short, Anthony Weiner loves the health care bill.
It’s just that… well… it might not be right for his district:
Rep. Anthony Weiner said Wednesday he was looking into how a health law waiver might work for New York City.
Weiner, who is likely to run for mayor of New York, said that because of the city’s special health care infrastructure, his office was looking into alternatives that might make more sense.
Yes, we're talking about this Weiner:
Our Lord Anthony Weiner: ObamaCare in the Flesh
"I basically read the bill, wrote the bill ― the bill and I are one."
As Doug Powers has hinted, the people of Weiner's NYC-based U.S. Congressional district should do themselves (and the rest of us) a huge favor and vote for a waiver of the Weiner himself.
An Obamacare Weiner-Waiver for New York City?
*In the general population of American adults (voters and non-voters), CNN found that 13% of those who reject the Democrats' massive and terribly expensive health care experiment answer "not liberal enough" to the following question:
21. (IF OPPOSE) Do you oppose that legislation because you think its approach toward health care is too liberal, or because you think it is not liberal enough?
Of course "that legislation" is Obamacare.
And that 13% is not 13% of everyone who responded to the pollster. That 13% is actually only 13% of the 59% who reject ObamaCare, i.e., only about 7.6% of the total.
Take a step back to see the bigger picture. In CNN's poll, almost 60% of all Americans (including uninformed non-voters) said that they oppose Obamacare. Only 37% said that they support Obamacare. If CNN had polled voters only (the politically active folks who actually hire and fire politicians at the ballot box), the results of CNN's poll likely would have been even more favorable to conservatives. (Polls that sample all adults will skew a bit more liberal than those composed of registered or likely voters.)
WeinerWaivers!™ "Because ObamaCare is for you not me."
